About Me

Laura Oliver, designer and owner of Something New, LLC, started her bridal business as a bit of an experiment. Inspired by the trials and tribulations encountered while on the search for her own wedding dress, she wondered if there might be other gals out there who, too, wanted to be able to do things like walk, dance, use the bathroom without assistance on their wedding day? Could this be true?! Freed from the cumbersome traditional bridal gown, women would be free to run, jump, and play on one of the happiest days of their lives! Not to mention, breathe properly.

Laura cultivated a love of illustration from very early in life which eventually morphed into a love of fashion and all things wearable. She went from not knowing a thing about sewing to graduating with honors and a B.A. in Apparel Design and Development. Her 2005 senior line of organic silk lingerie, Eden, was nominated for the Most Marketable Line, Studio Trend-Setter, and Best Theme Development Awards. She was also one of five graduates in her class of thirty to receive a Technical Achievement Award for her studio collection. Laura has continued to expand her education by attending seminars with renowned bridal couturier, Susan Khalje.

Sustainability has remained an important component of Laura’s design process. Not a destination so much as a journey, there is something new to learn every step of the way in a truly sustainable process. Laura works with a wide variety of materials, but prefers to use silk hemp blends, peace silks, fabrics made with certified organic materials, and fabrics made traditionally in small villages.

Stressed about your wedding? Neither are we. Now, buy a pretty dress and have some fun.
