Fabulous Farmer's Market Flowers

Even though the summer is starting to wind down, I wanted to post some beautiful floral farmer's market pictures I took last week. I think these jewels are seriously worth considering for a ceremony or reception, especially for a wedding with some casual flair.

I used to work at a florist shop and obviously I have seen some pretty incredible arrangements created by the professionals. Florists offer a level of customization that you cannot get at a farmer’s market.  They are also the best option if you want fresh flowers and are getting married in, say, December in, say, Wisconsin. But consider the alternative. A wedding anywhere from May through September (possibly longer, depending on where you live) has the luxury of picking from your area’s local bounty!

It’s not polite to discuss exact figures, but there is the potential to save a lot of money with local flowers.  Like, a lot. To spend on other things. Shoes, for example. Not to mention that purchasing bouquets from a farmer’s market supports the local economy and uses less fuel than importing flowers from South America or Holland.

Walk around the farmer’s market and scope out who's got the most impressive buds. Chat with some of the local growers about a month before the big event. Many vendors will be happy to try and meet specific color or flower requests if they're available. The family we worked with for our wedding even put them into bouquets for us and we picked them up the day of the reception. Seriously, nothing could have been easier!

So for a summer wedding you can save some money, support your local economy, and reduce your carbon footprint. All good things coming together to create a beautiful moment.

Enjoy!
